Tadalafil is a medication primarily used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED), a condition characterized by the inability to achieve or maintain an erection sufficient for sexual activity. It is also used to treat other medical conditions such as benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). Tadalafil is sold under various brand names, with Cialis being one of the most well-known.
Mechanism of Action: Tadalafil belongs to a class of drugs known as phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitors. Like sildenafil (Viagra), it works by increasing blood flow to the penis when a man is sexually aroused, facilitating the attainment and maintenance of an erection. Tadalafil has a longer duration of action compared to sildenafil, which is why it is sometimes referred to as the “weekend pill.”
